A Fierce Fight in the Bronx

State Senator Pedro Espada Jr. watched his district in the northwest Bronx turn into a political battleground this summer as a broad coalition of labor unions, elected officials and political advocates joined forces to unseat him in the September 14 Democratic primary. Mr. Espada, who is facing civil corruption charges, is waging a hard-fought campaign. He has accused Gustavo Rivera, his main opponent, of being a puppet of outside forces.
